With a warm welcome at Gokarneshwor municipality a community awareness was organized where participants were enlightened with how our unseen micro activities are giving rise to deeply rooted ancestral long Gender Based Violence and igniting it in the family and community. The facilitator highlighted how our unseen daily activities such as work division among male and female ,the type of language we use as well as different rituals and traditions which we have been following for generations without understanding and raising the questions are unknowingly shaping a society of discrimination and violence.
The concise remark by the deputy mayor of Gokarneshwor municipality Respected Sannani Lama reflected the present scenario on gender based violence in the society. She stated that as of now the number of gender based violence is very low; People are hesitant to complain about the abuse, violence because of family status in the society, lack of empowerment and for their children they are compelled to suffer all types of violence. She underlined the fact that even male are the victims of Gender based violence. We emphasize and prioritize women highly in case of Gender based violence while in the shadow the male are suffering, no place for them to express because of unwanted societal status, stereotypes.
Integrating with different NGOs such as Maiti Nepal, Shakti Samuha for women empowerment ,training has been the continuous effort of Gokarneshwor municipality and now Setu Nepal by conducting this awareness program has added a new door for us to expand our reach which will be fruitful for empowering peopleof community as well as eliminating violence.
On the ending remark she request people to not be oppressed because of violence and learn to raise voice against violence.
