School Strengthening

We conduct different campaigns such as Day meal Program, One rupee campaign and teacher trainings in order to strengthen government schools so that every child can get a quality education.

Concept

By paying school fees and providing them the necessary school supplies like school bags and stationary as well as always keeping track of their efforts and performance SETU Nepal tries to support these children throughout their whole school level if they show the necessary motivation and dedication. If we observe a lack of interest coming from one of the students or if they fail in two academic years, we will discontinue the support and reintroduce new children that show more potential and interest. However, we will always search their other potentialities to encourage them for any other vocational activities for their livelihood. Furthermore, if other organizations are willing to support a few of our students, we are happy to let those organization take over the support, so that we can include needy children instead.

School Strengthening

For now, all children will attend public schools in their district in order to keep them inserted within their community and give a more positive image of children and families living with HIV/AIDS. Furthermore, the lower subscription costs mean we can support a greater number of children. However, we are aware that he education provided by government school of Nepal is of a poorer quality when compared to that of private schools. As such we always try to encourage the parents of the children to invest into the education of their children so that they can got to private schools.

As the majority of the children, especially from rural and vulnerable areas, attend government schools and we think they also deserve the right to have a good education; their education should not be defined by whether they can afford private schools or not. Therefor we have introduced into our work various school strengthening programs, as for example teacher training, school garden set up and our campaign “Day Meal Program”.

Methods

Day Meal Program is an initiative to involve parents and schools in the nutrition of their children. Each parent, the school and we ourselves have to pay a certain amount of money per child per day, which is used to prepare nutritious food for the students. Each year the amount of money increases and at the same our responsibility goes down and finally the program is completely handed over. This ensures that the community as well as the school takes full involvement for the healthy development of their children. This program had been initiated after the earthquakes of 2015 and has now complete been included into our regular program.
