On 25th April 2025, Setu Nepal successfully conducted a Community Awareness Session on Gender-Based Violence at Shikharapur School, in collaboration with the Shikharapur Community Learning Centre, at Shikharapur Campus, Pharping, Dakshinkali.
While the world is racing towards modernization with large-scale projects, globalization, power, and technology constantly reshaping societies, one heartbreaking reality remains unchanged:
Gender-Based Discrimination, Stigma, and Violence. No matter how fast the world advances, without addressing these deep-rooted issues, true progress remains an illusion.
During the event, 55 community members gathered to engage in meaningful discussions about unnoticed everyday activities that contribute to gender-based discrimination — from household chores, menstrual taboos, patriarchal structures, use of dominating language, to real-life examples within the community.
We also bravely touched upon sensitive topics like HIV/AIDS and transgender, emphasizing the importance of creating safe, inclusive spaces for all individuals.A major highlight of the session was encouraging women to engage in small livelihood activities, empowering them to uplift their status and autonomy.
We reminded everyone:
"We constantly think about our husbands, children, families, and society — but who thinks about us?"
Learning to love oneself, ask critical questions, and speak out against harmful traditions was a powerful message shared throughout the event.
Special thanks to the inspiring Deputy Mayor of Dakshinkali Municipality, Ms. Basanti Dangol Tamang, whose encouraging words strengthened the spirit of the participants. She emphasized that real change happens through action, not just words.
