Emergency Relief Distribution to Vulnerable Communities

The group of people that are the major victims of the lockdown are the labourers, daily–wage earners and street vendors. Since they rely on their daily income and their work isn’t salary based, they were hit the most with financial struggles as the lockdown completely shut their business down. In order to relieve them from the situation, SETU Nepal delivered food supplies and necessary items like masks, sanitizers and soap to the vulnerable. Our beneficiaries included both HIV infected as well as non-HIV people whose daily earnings were hampered due to the lockdown.

We reached 57 families with emergency supplies including groceries and sanitizing materials and 38 families with cash support (equal to amount of supplies per head). So, a total of 95 (91 HIV positive and 4 non positive) families were directly reached through emergency support.

Supplies included: 25kg rice, ½ kg soya chunks, ½ litre oil, 1 packet salt, 1kg Sarbottam Lito, 1kg pulse, 3 pcs soap, 1 bottle sanitizer and 1 box masks.

Stationaries Support

The lockdown not only restricted people from going out, but also blocked the studies. Private schools have opted for online learning but it isn’t for all since there are many students who cannot afford a device for online classes. Bal Sarathi School has been providing education to the poor children from the Pashupati area for free of cost. SETU provided stationeries to 15 students of Bal Sarathi School to ease their difficulties.

Emergency Support to Isolation Centres

With the outbreak of the second variant, Nepal faced a few extended lockdowns with obstructed movements especially in the Kathmandu Valley itself. The hospitals and the isolation centres of Kathmandu were facing shortages of proper medical supplies, so, realizing the need for support in the health sector, we distributed medical supplies, groceries and accessory materials to an Isolation Center in Gaushala, Kathmandu Municipality.

On top of this, SETU Nepal also distributed medical equipment and oxygen cylinders for the operation of isolation centres in different places outside the valley. Initiating with our own visit in Kathmandu Metropolitan City, we reached Dudhauli Municipality in Sindhuli and Manthali Municipality in Ramechhap District and handed all the support materials through local coordinating bodies.

All centres were provided with: 125kg of rice, 10kg of pulses, 15kg of beaten rice, 5kg of Bengal gram, 10 litres of oil, 15 dozen biscuits, 10 packets of Sarbottam Lito, 10 kg of soya chunks, 15 hot water bags, 15 bedsheets with pillows, 15 blankets, 15 mosquito nets, and 15 dustbins.

Medical supplies were also provided to each centre based on needs and availability.
