Durga Gotama was only 24 years old, when her husband was killed by Army accusing as a Maoist spy. Her husband, Thakur Prasad Gotame was killed at Narja while he was sleeping. Her son Prithvi was 9 months old when her husband was killed.
After her husband's death, she was helpless. She didnt get any help neither from the village nor from the government. Her in- laws also accused her as cause of her husband death. Her villagers also saw her as bad luck for her family. She was mentally tortured by her in- laws. Her parents died after her marriage, so she had no hope. She was highly depressed with her life.
She started living her life doing agriculture which became a source of income for her.Her son studied in a government school. However financially, it was extremely hard for her. One of the SETU’s networking organization in Rasuwa referred her to Setu so she could take the training on sewing and tailoring.
She was enrolled in the Sewing Training Course organized by SETU. Her son's education has also been supported by Setu and he is now studying in a English medium school in Rasuwa. Now she is stitching clothes in her own home by the sewing machine provided by SETU.
