The protests by Generation Z in Nepal are leaving their mark not only on the streets, but also in people's homes. For Parvati, a young woman from the far western region of Nepal, the impact is personal and devastating.
Having completed her Bachelor's degree in Plant Science, Parvati had been preparing for the Loksewa examinations while living in a rented room in Kathmandu. However, her younger brother, who worked as a pathoo rider to support the family, was shot in the hip during the protests and is now receiving treatment at Civil Hospital.
The sudden halt to his work and mounting medical expenses have plunged Parvati into a financial and emotional crisis.
"I had dreams of building a career and supporting my family, but right now, my only focus is on looking after my brother," she said, looking distressed.
Setu Nepal has provided financial support and counselling, enabling Parvati to manage hospital visits and her caregiving responsibilities. Her story sheds light on the hidden struggles endured by women during periods of political unrest, emphasizing the critical need for sustained, genuine support.


Roshan was severely injured by a gunshot on 8 September 2025 during the Gen-Z protest, leaving him unable to care for himself. His mother, who had been working hard to support him, was devastated and felt completely lost.
Setu Nepal reached out to provide counselling and nutritional support for both mother and son. With the help of trauma counselling and emotional support, his mother regained her strength and hope, and he found comfort and encouragement in being able to express himself.
Today, the mother feels hopeful again and Roshan is making slow progress the care and with the psychosocial support provided by Setu Nepal. Their story demonstrates how resilience and community support can restore hope, even in the darkest of times.
Mannsi was a young student from Janakpur who was living in Kathmandu with her older brother while studying. During the Gen-Z protests, she was shot in the hand, leaving her and her brother feeling helpless and distressed. Her mother rushed to Kathmandu to care for her, but the family could not afford treatment as Mannsi was still a student and unemployed.
Fortunately, Setu Nepal stepped in to support her by providing mental health counselling and nutritional support. Thanks to this timely help, she was able to regain her confidence and hope. Seeing her recovery and positive outlook encouraged her family, too.


Sabita, a single mother, lost all hope after being shot during the Generation Z protest. With no support from her husband and facing deep struggles, she and her sister even attempted to end their lives. However, it was the memory of her daughter that gave her the strength to seek help.
SETU Nepal stepped in, providing mental health counselling and nutritional support. Sabita, also shared her wish for her daughter to receive an education, and SETU Nepal took the initiative of discussing this with the municipality. Today, Sabita feels stronger and more supported, and she no longer feels hopeless, knowing that she and her daughter are not alone.
