Guess what is happening all around the world??
The largest 16th-day activism event is being celebrated for addressing Gender Based Violence. The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence is an international campaign which starts on 25th November and is celebrated for 16 days till December 10th, originating from the first Women’s Global Leadership Institute sponsored by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership in 1991.
To mark the opening of this campaign, Setu Nepal conducted an awareness program on Gender-Based Violence at Setu Nepal Social Enterprises, changunarayan, Bhaktapur. The event was centric towards inspiring and empowering women to raise their voices against GBV prevailing in our home community. The event took a good shape with a broad range of ideas shared with realistic cases prevailing around changunarayan area.
Khila Kumari Malla from ChanguNarayan Municipality distributed a white ribbon to all participants stating the meaning of this act as I wont tolerate violence, I will not commit violence and I will fight back against violence. This act of white ribbon distribution has helped to aware participants about 16 day event in changuranayan area.
On the same point, Prakriti Kc,a member of Pikhel club and a psychologist student stated that violence has not only physical structure but there are many more forms of it such as mental torture,oppression.She requested ward representative to provide a counselling room in the ward area with a qualified counsellor to counsel the victim as well as general people regarding Gender based violence. A beautiful poem stat addressing gender based violence mark the end of her speech.
Youth like Prakriti Kc serves as an example and motivator that our activities are able to influence youth and people. Youth like her are the one who bring changes in the society, who raise voice against violence and who create a new path for the junior. Don’t you think we need more Youth like Prakriti kc? Of course we do.
On the other hand to support the beneficiaries of Setu Nepal, different stalls were provided so that they can showcase and sell their products creating them a place for network as well as to strength them.
