Nima (name changed, age 8) and Urvashi (name changed, age 2) arrived at Aarati House in the summer of 2018 along with their two brothers. The four siblings were rescued from Dolakha district after tragically losing both parents within a month. The youngest, Urvashi, was still breastfeeding when their mother passed away. All the children, except the eldest sister, are HIV-positive and were left without any caregiver. They were referred to SETU Nepal by the District Child Welfare Board for immediate care and support.
Their Story:
The siblings endured unimaginable loss and hardship. Their father, who was HIV positive, passed away shortly before they were rescued. A few days later, their mother, while returning from the farm with baby Urvashi in her arms, sat down by the roadside to rest—and passed away while breastfeeding, due to complications from opportunistic infections. The trauma of this event, along with the stigma of HIV, left the children deeply affected.
They were referred to SETU Nepal, where they received medical treatment (ART) and were given shelter at the Transit Home. Once the boys stabilized, they were transferred to another organization, as SETU Nepal provides residential care only for female children.
Fortunately, a generous well-wisher sponsored Urvashi’s nutrition for one year, and Nima received partial support for her education. The girls have since found a loving family in SETU Nepal, among both staff and fellow children. Their transformation from grief-stricken orphans to joyful, motivated girls is both moving and inspiring. Nima is particularly skilled at drawing and takes her studies seriously, while Urvashi is cheerful, curious, and intelligent beyond her years.
Current Status:
Nima is now in Grade 9 and continues to excel in her studies. She has a keen interest in crafts and is a highly motivated learner. Urvashi is in Grade 3, known for her bright personality and remarkable talent in dancing and singing. Both girls are thriving in the safe, supportive environment of SETU Nepal.
Appeal for Support:
We humbly request the continued support of our well-wishers to help provide for the education, healthcare, and daily needs of Nima and Urvashi. Your contribution—no matter the amount—can pave the way for their brighter, more independent future.
We also appeal for urgent and long-term support for their two brothers, who are currently being cared for in another organization. Together, we can restore joy and dignity to the lives of these young children. There is no greater fulfillment than being the reason behind a child’s smile.
Rehabilitation Update:
With continued efforts, SETU Nepal successfully rehabilitated their brothers—Chiring Gole (age 6) and Angnima Gole (age 4)—to Saana Haatharu Nepal from Aarati Home.
