As cooking is an important skill to learn, we frequently provide the children with raw materials so that they can involve themselves in the cooking process under supervision. This May, we arranged bundles of food materials needed for preparing varieties of items and children together prepared new and delicious foods twice a week throughout the lockdown.
From the earlier lockdown phase, the children were involved in chicken rearing inside the home so that they had productive time in learning different aspects of nature.
The training on vermi-composting was conducted in 2020 in SETU Nepal in coordination with CECI which was replicated in transit home too so as to teach the children about the skills and make them familiar with nature. With the learned skills, they were able to culture vermi in significant amounts to sell to commercial buyers and provide manure for the gardening.
Children made varieties of pots and toys out of clay during the lockdowns that have been used as display materials as well as playing items. Additionally, they invested their huge creativity and time in making different jewelry and ornaments out of beads and stuff of old clothes. The work on waste product utilization with appreciable teamwork was really impressive and creative and a great skill for the children to learn.
