Richa Parimal (Name changed)

Richa Parimal is from Nawalparasi, Nepal. She is the youngest of six siblings and the only one infected with HIV. After both of her parents died due to HIV-related complications, Richa’s own health began to deteriorate severely. As her condition worsened, she was boycotted by her family and relatives. In response, the local community collected money to send her to Kathmandu—with the intention that she never return—out of fear that she might transmit the disease.

Her Story:

Richa is from Gaidakot-3, Nawalparasi, and has been living in the transit home of SETU Nepal since 2015. She is the youngest of seven children. Her father suffered from chest pain and severe weight loss, and although he was receiving treatment, he unfortunately passed away. Soon after, her mother’s health also began to deteriorate. Medical tests revealed she was HIV positive, and she later passed away due to complications from the disease.

Following their deaths, all seven children were tested for HIV, and the results showed that only Richa had contracted the virus. As her health worsened—marked by persistent fever and fatigue—fear and stigma gripped her community. Villagers, afraid that she might infect others, collected money to send her away from the village with the intention of never bringing her back.

Alone and abandoned in Kathmandu, Richa was referred to SETU Nepal by a member of a local organization, Lumbini Plus. At the time, she was extremely weak and suffering from severe skin infections. Immediate medical attention, including antibiotics and antiretroviral therapy, saved her life.

Since then, Richa has been living in Aarati House with the other children of SETU Nepal. While her overall health is now stable, she remains highly vulnerable to opportunistic infections such as pneumonia, mumps, and fever, and requires ongoing care and attention.

Richa is an intelligent and obedient girl. She is known for her gentle nature and her willingness to help care for the other children, whom she proudly calls her "sweet sisters."

Current Status:

Richa is currently in Grade 10. She is a cheerful girl who enjoys playing badminton and dancing. Deeply spiritual and culturally grounded, she shows great promise and potential for a bright future. We at SETU Nepal are proud of her growth and dedication.

Appeal:

To support Richa’s continued health, education, and emotional well-being, we humbly appeal to our well-wishers, donors, and supporters. Your kindness can ensure she receives the nurturing and stability every child deserves.

Any form of support will be deeply appreciated.
