After successful handover of the Day Meal Program started as a response to massive earthquake 2015 in Bhanu Primary School, at Bhattedada, Southern Lalitpur we came to realize that good coordination among Teachers, School Management Committee and the parents of the children can really provide a fruitful result for making the change.
From this learning, SETU Nepal has now stepped in another government school Shree Choina Bina Guru Ganesh Aadharbhut Bidhyalaya as a part of our School Strengthening Program. This school is one of the very old government schools and though it is located at central part of Lalitpur it has high irregularity of students and dropout rate is also high. So realizing the weak school management and lack of child friendly infrastructure we selected this school for our school strengthening program. Regarding the day meal program, it was already running through their own effort it was quite easy for us to get the positive result in the feasibility study. We found that the program was running through very hard effort of the school and they had no any fund raising strategy so we organized a meeting with the parents and other stakeholders like School management Committee members. Through the meeting the parents of the children were convinced for providing Rs. 5 per head of their children per every school days. It was our great achievement to make the parents accountable for their children. Thereafter as per the request of the school, SETU Nepal itself has started the program providing Rs. 10 per students per day for the program. It is also decided that the rest of the amount will go to the fund raising goals of the school.
The organization distributed necessary utensils such as plates and other cutleries to the students to facilitate the day meal program and to make sure that they have access to materials needed to have a productive time at school. (can be added into website post) Through the nutrition program, the students would be able to reap benefits of a healthy mind with the help of a healthy body.
We aim to make the school self sustainable for the meal program and other management system on a long run through this program.
The Day meal program is the first step of SETU Nepal for conducting different School Strengthening activities. We are planning for different other activities to make the school and the management strong and smooth running of the teaching learning process in the school.
