After two great earthquakes, the situation of community is definitely affecting the education and development of children directly and indirectly. The dropout and irregularity of school attendance has been increased specially in primary level of education. We observed that these children barely got a proper meal at home and had no chance to bring lunch (or, tiffin) to school. We discussed this situation with the teachers and the principals ans we are now running Nutritious food distribution program (Poshilo Aahaar Bitaran Karyakram) starting from two primary level schools in Lalitpur district followed by seven more schools in near future.
For sustainability point of view and to make the parents and school management accountable, we are asking for contribution of NRs. 5.00 from the parents for each child for each day. This fund collected from the parents go towards hiring cleaning staff on those school. It will also help triangular monitoring about nutritious food supply to children in school.
