Ranjana Tamang was only two and a half years old when she arrived at SETU Nepal with her mother, following the death of her father. They had come for HIV testing, and sadly, both tested positive. Grieving the loss of her husband and facing rejection from her own family, Ranjana’s mother found refuge at SETU Nepal. She began living at the organization as a caregiver, looking after the other children while raising her daughter in a safe and supportive environment.
Her Story:
Ranjana Tamang was born in the small village of Nebuwatar, in Makwanpur district. Shortly after her birth, her father—who was living with HIV—passed away. Tragically, both Ranjana and her mother also tested positive for HIV, adding to the hardship this young family faced.
Life was far from easy. Ranjana’s mother, married at an early age, had limited education and resources. She was left to care for her daughter and elderly mother-in-law, struggling to provide even the most basic needs, such as proper nutrition and education. Facing stigma and social rejection, they had nowhere to turn.
Ranjana and her mother were referred to SETU Nepal, where they found not only shelter, but also dignity and support. Ranjana was welcomed into Aarati House, where she now receives antiretroviral treatment, nutritious food, education, and emotional care. Her mother also found purpose again, working as a caregiver at SETU Nepal and lovingly taking on the role of a mother to all the children in the home.
Current Status:
Thanks to the safe and nurturing environment, Ranjana has blossomed into a bright and lively girl. She shares a special bond with the other children, especially Urvashi, and is well-loved by everyone around her. Known for her cheerful personality and strong academic performance, Ranjana is currently in Grade 5. She excels not only in her studies but also in dancing, and she dreams of becoming a doctor one day.
Appeal for Support:
Despite limited funding, SETU Nepal is doing everything possible to ensure Ranjana receives proper education, nutrition, and care. We humbly appeal to our well-wishers, donors, and supporters to help us continue supporting her journey toward a healthy, empowered, and independent future.
Every contribution, big or small, can help secure a better life for Ranjana, because every child deserves a chance to thrive.
