When Protest Hits Home: A Sister’s Struggle

Kathmandu – The ongoing Gen Z protests in Nepal are leaving deep marks not just on the streets but inside homes. For Parvati, a young woman from the far western region of Nepal, the impact is personal and devastating.

Living in a rented room in Kathmandu, Parvati had been preparing for the Loksewa examinations after completing her bachelor’s degree in Plant Science. Her younger brother, who worked as a patho rider to support them, was shot in the hip during the protests and is now undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital.

The sudden halt of his work and mounting medical expenses have pushed Parvati into a financial and emotional crisis. “I had dreams of building my career and contributing to my family, but right now, all my focus is on taking care of my brother,” she shared with visible distress.

Setu Nepal stepped in to provide financial support along with counselling, enabling Parvati to manage hospital visits and caregiving responsibilities. Her story highlights the unseen struggles faced by women during political unrest and underlines the urgent need for genuine, sustained support.
